Tom Girardi, the once-prominent attorney, has been sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison. Girardi’s legal representatives requested a noncustodial sentence due to his age—he is set to turn 86 shortly—and his diagnosis of dementia. They proposed that he serve his term in a memory care unit within an assisted living facility. During the sentencing hearing, federal public defender Sam Cross remarked, “Today is the last day he will ever step foot in a courtroom.”
