Seventh Circuit Adds $6 Million in Interest to Tata Consultancy Services’ $140 Million Legal Bill

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit has ruled that an IT company is liable for an added $6 million in post-judgment interest. The interest is linked to a punitive damages award of $140 million, which the court asserts was “ascertainable” from the initial judgment dating back to 2017. In overturning a decision by the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, the appellate court emphasized that neither it nor the district court ever deemed $140 million excessive. This dispute involves Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., which was initially charged with improperly using confidential information and intellectual property from Epic Systems Corp.
