Coinbase Secures Legal Victory in wBTC Delisting Lawsuit as BiT Global Withdraws Claims

Coinbase has successfully concluded a legal battle as BiT Global Digital Ltd. decided to dismiss its antitrust and unfair competition lawsuit filed against the cryptocurrency platform. The case centered on Coinbase’s decision to delist wrapped Bitcoin (wBTC) from its exchange, prompting BiT Global’s legal challenge. A December ruling by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California had previously denied BiT Global’s request for a temporary restraining order aimed at reinstating wBTC on the platform’s trading list. The dismissal of the case was confirmed following this procedural setback for BiT Global.

Paul Grewal, Coinbase’s Chief Legal Officer, emphasized the outcome on social media platform X, underscoring that this result supports the company’s operational discretion to prioritize user security and risk management. Kevin Kneupper and A. Cyclone Covey of Kneupper & Covey, counsel for BiT Global, had initially indicated their intent to contest the case through to trial, making this dismissal a notable conclusion to the legal proceedings.
