ABA Challenges U.S. Justice Department’s Decision to Exclude Longstanding Judicial Vetting Process

The American Bar Association (ABA) is urging action from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi following a shift in the Justice Department’s policy regarding the vetting of federal judicial nominees. In a recent letter, ABA President William Bay expressed concern over the department’s decision to end the ABA’s longstanding role in evaluating these nominees, a responsibility the ABA has held for more than seven decades. Bay’s letter describes the decision as “deeply disturbing” and calls into question the lack of justification or basis for this policy change.
