According to a recent report, in-house legal teams are increasingly ahead of law firms in adopting artificial intelligence (AI) tools for legal work. The 2025 State of AI in Legal report, published by Ironclad, highlights a significant gap in AI adoption between firm attorneys and their counterparts in legal departments. While 81% of in-house lawyers utilize AI tools, only 55% of law firm lawyers do so, revealing a 26 percentage point disparity.
This trend may have implications for law firms’ future business prospects. Resistance to integrating AI into legal practices might place law firms at a competitive disadvantage, particularly as technology continues to transform the legal landscape.
