In a move aimed at transforming court form preparation, AffiniPay, the parent company of MyCase and LawPay, has established a partnership with Canadian AI company Caseway. The collaboration introduces Caseway’s AI-powered court form automation tool to MyCase users, bringing intelligent document processing capabilities to the legal professionals using the platform.
The new tool leverages artificial intelligence to extract pertinent information from previously filed legal documents, such as complaints and affidavits, and automatically populate new court forms. Initially, the service will support forms from California, with expected expansion across the United States within a month after launch, according to Caseway’s founder and CEO, Alistair Vigier.
Lawyers using the service will upload existing documents, allowing the AI to auto-fill new court forms with details like party names and case information. The feature will be available as an add-on within MyCase, although pricing details are still under consideration. Additionally, Caseway plans to provide MyCase users with a complimentary U.S. legal research tool in the near future, which will be accessible to the wider public as well.
Initially, practitioners will have to access the AI tool through Caseway’s platform but plans are underway for full integration into MyCase’s interface. Vigier emphasized this phased integration approach by stating, “As of the first version of our partnership, you would have to move over to Caseway to do it. In the future, if there’s the more detailed integration, then everything would be done within MyCase.”
The deployment of the AI tool is expected to commence within a month, following essential quality assurance procedures. The initial California rollout will allow Caseway to refine the product based on user feedback, before addressing the complexities across other states.
While Caseway seizes this opportunity to collaborate with larger legal technology entities, it notably remains embroiled in a legal dispute. As previously reported, the company faces a lawsuit from the Canadian Legal Information Institute (CanLII), which alleges unauthorized use of its legal data to develop Caseway’s solutions. The case remains unresolved, with minimal recent developments observed.
