Streamline AI Secures $8.6 Million in Series A Funding to Enhance Automation in Legal Operations

In a significant development for automation in legal operations, Streamline AI, a legal technology startup founded by a former DoorDash attorney, has successfully closed an $8.6 million Series A funding round, raising its total capital to $14 million. This step is set to bolster the company’s efforts in automating legal workflows for in-house teams.

The latest funding round was spearheaded by Blumberg Capital and included contributions from Tribeca Venture Partners, Acronym Venture Capital, Great Oaks Venture Capital, and Scribble Ventures. The company has outlined plans to leverage this new funding to expand its market reach, especially focusing on mid-market and enterprise legal departments.

Founded in 2020 by Kathy Zhu, who previously served as a commercial counsel at Medallia and DoorDash, and Julian Wimbush, a former Google engineer, Streamline AI has developed a platform that seeks to alleviate inefficiencies in legal operations. Key features of the platform include an AI-powered intake system that structures data from incoming emails and a conversational AI assistant designed to manage routine queries, freeing up valuable attorney time for more complex tasks.

This platform is already in use by legal departments at companies including Gusto, 8×8, Acorns, and Bloom Energy, supporting over 500 in-house lawyers. According to Streamline AI, it has achieved a 40-50% reduction in request turnaround times and a 25% boost in response times. Moreover, the platform now encompasses a suite of additional features like matter management, cross-functional collaboration, AI-driven knowledge management, and automated document generation.

The company’s inception was driven by the challenges Zhu faced during her tenure at DoorDash, particularly amidst the company’s rapid growth during the COVID-19 pandemic. “I witnessed firsthand how manual intake and workflow processes can cripple even the most talented legal teams,” Zhu noted, highlighting the pressures of managing the escalating volume and complexity of legal requests during that period.

Pramod Gosavi, senior principal at Blumberg Capital and a board member at Streamline AI, lauded the company’s unique approach: “Kathy, Julian, and team bring an exceptional, inside-out understanding of how legal teams operate — and they’ve translated that into a platform that’s driving real results for customers today.”
