At its annual BoxWorks conference held in San Francisco, Box announced the launch of Box Shield Pro, an upgraded version of its security platform incorporating AI-driven capabilities. The suite is targeted at addressing the specific cybersecurity demands of industries such as legal, financial services, and government agencies, among others.
Building upon its existing Shield capabilities, Box Shield Pro introduces three new AI-based features: the AI Classification Agent for automated content categorization, an AI Threat Analysis Agent for more streamlined security alerts, and ransomware detection functionalities aimed at monitoring mass encryption attempts across the Box ecosystem. These enhancements are particularly noteworthy for legal practices where managing privileged documents is of paramount importance.
For law firms, the AI Classification Agent offers automated categorization of legal documents based on sophisticated content analysis and compliance with organizational standards. The Threat Analysis Agent provides condensed threat alerts, thereby facilitating quicker response times for security teams when faced with suspicious activities.
The platform has already found a user in the Santa Barbara County Office of the Public Defender. According to Deepak Budwani, the office’s chief financial and administrative officer, the tool assists in safeguarding sensitive client information without interrupting day-to-day legal operations.
Box Shield Pro employs these new AI-driven security agents to both shield data and accelerate incident responses.
- The AI Classification Agent uses intelligent content analysis for automatic classification of sensitive documents based on detected patterns and file context.
- The AI Threat Analysis Agent simplifies alerting systems by providing concise summaries, allowing for quicker and more effective response from security personnel.
- Ransomware Activity Detection works proactively within the Box platform to identify and alert teams to potential mass encryption incidents, thereby enabling rapid remediation actions.
The introduction of Box Shield Pro arises as more professional service organizations, including legal firms, integrate AI into their content workflows; this introduces new security challenges that Box aims to address by embedding security measures within the AI functionalities rather than employing them as subsequent overlays.
Initially launched in 2019, Box Shield has since evolved with additional features such as malware scanning and behavioral anomaly detection. Shield Pro represents its logical progression in the AI era. This new offering will be available as an add-on for current Box Shield, Enterprise Plus, and Enterprise Advanced customers later in the year, with pricing details yet to be disclosed.
