Young BEDER Network Organizes Workshop on Future Trajectory of EU Values in Ghent and Brussels

The European Union’s foundational values—respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and human rights—are facing significant challenges in the current geopolitical climate. In response, the Young BEDER network is organizing a workshop titled “A European Union of Values: Quo Vadis?” to critically examine the future trajectory of these principles within the EU framework. This event is scheduled for 27 November 2025 at Ghent University, followed by the BEDER annual event on 28 November in Brussels. The workshop aims to provide a platform for doctoral researchers and legal professionals to engage in in-depth discussions about the resilience and evolution of EU values amidst contemporary challenges. Participants will have the opportunity to analyze how these values are upheld or compromised in various contexts, fostering a comprehensive understanding of their current state and future prospects.

In a similar vein, the European External Action Service (EEAS) hosted the “Quo Vadis, Europa?” summer course in August 2023. This program brought together political leaders, academics, and experts to deliberate on the EU’s role as a global actor and its relationships with major international players. ([eeas.europa.eu](https://www.eeas.europa.eu/eeas/quo-vadis-europa-summer-course-2023-programme_und?utm_source=openai)) Such initiatives underscore the ongoing efforts within the EU to reflect on and reinforce its core values in a rapidly changing world.

For those interested in participating in the upcoming workshop, registration is currently open for BEDER members.
