In the wake of its recent $1 billion acquisition of vLex, Clio has unveiled the new leadership roles for key former vLex executives. This strategic move follows the November closing of the acquisition, a transaction that melded Clio’s practice management solutions with vLex’s expansive legal research capabilities. The deal is seen as a substantial expansion of Clio’s offerings, integrating a comprehensive legal workflow solution for their global clientele.
Lluis Faus, who co-founded vLex in 2000, has taken on the role of strategic advisor and interim chief content officer at Clio. With extensive experience in legal research and content innovation, Faus is set to enhance Clio’s content strategy in his new capacity. Ed Walters, former chief strategy officer at vLex and cofounder of Fastcase, was appointed as vice president of legal innovation and strategy, with a focus on propelling innovation across Clio’s broadening product portfolio.
Angel Faus, another vLex cofounder who served as the chief technology officer, assumes the position of vice president of engineering. In his new role, Angel Faus is tasked with the integration of vLex technology into Clio’s platform. Additionally, Phil Rosenthal takes the lead as head of bar and academic partnerships. Rosenthal’s previous experience includes roles at both vLex and Fastcase, where he furthered connections with bar associations and law schools.
The acquisition not only enhances Clio’s array of services but also marked a substantial financial move with a $500 million Series G funding round that evaluated Clio at $5 billion. With 150,000 customers and access to vLex’s research platform used by millions globally, Clio is poised to strengthen its market position significantly.
