“Oxford Conference to Address the Future of Retained EU Law in Post-Brexit UK”

The University of Oxford is set to host a conference titled “Assimilated Law – the Role and Future of Retained EU Law in the UK” on 13 and 14 April 2026. This event is jointly organized by Professor Anne Davies and Dr. Johannes Ungerer and is funded by the Institute of European and Comparative Law as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations.

Following the UK’s departure from the European Union, a significant portion of EU legislation was incorporated into domestic law, a body now referred to as ‘assimilated law’. This development raises critical questions about the application, interpretation, and future evolution of these laws within the UK legal framework.

The conference aims to bring together legal scholars and practitioners to establish a common understanding of the practices and challenges regarding assimilated law. The event will be structured over one and a half days, beginning with discussions on general questions about assimilated law to explore common themes and trends. Subsequently, the focus will shift to addressing particularly complex issues related to assimilated law in specific areas.

Details regarding the conference programme and attendance options will be announced in due course. For more information, please visit the University of Oxford’s Faculty of Law website.
