Today marks a new development in the realm of legal technology as Centerbase, a practice management platform tailored for midsized law firms, announces the introduction of its enhanced native integration with NetDocuments. This landmark integration connects Centerbase’s matter data directly with ndMAX, NetDocuments’ AI-powered document intelligence system. This move positions Centerbase as a pioneer in providing midsized firms with the tools to streamline their AI applications without having to toggle between disparate systems.
This new feature will be spotlighted at the ABA TECHSHOW in Chicago, highlighting the strides Centerbase has made in creating a streamlined experience for midsized firms, which often struggle to integrate AI with existing fragmented tools. As Rob Joyner, senior vice president of business development at Centerbase, points out, the company is concentrating its efforts on the mid-law sector, seeking to unify the available technologies.
The essence of this integration is its seamless embedding of NetDocuments’ AI capabilities into Centerbase’s ecosystem. This directly eliminates the cumbersome task of manual data duplication or system toggling. For instance, with the creation of a new matter in Centerbase, NetDocuments can automatically generate document packages, workspaces, and templates relevant to the specific matter type, thus saving time and reducing manual errors. This enhanced functionality also works in reverse; information saved in NetDocuments is automatically extracted and integrated back into Centerbase.
Scott Cormier, Centerbase’s chief product officer, showcased the workflow engine’s addition of NetDocuments as a native action type during a recent briefing. Users can choose specific data elements to direct to NetDocuments and dictate the creation of document templates, leaving the execution to the system. This precisely addresses the concerns raised by users about needing to manage separate processes that result in redundant data entry.
The integration is being introduced in two phases. The first phase, part of the Centerbase April release, focuses on allowing matter data to flow from Centerbase to NetDocuments, initiating document and workspace creation. The second phase, expected by midyear, aims to establish a bidirectional data flow, enabling documents processed through ndMAX to feed back into Centerbase, thus supporting reporting and further automation of workflows.
The integration also tackles governance and billing in AI usage, which is critical for midsized firms striving for compliance and profitability. By capturing usage data, the integration gives firms the ability to track AI-related work and incorporate it into their billing structures, setting the stage for more accurate alternative fee arrangements.
This initiative is a strategic step for Centerbase, which envisions this as the first of many integrated workflow innovations. These “workflow blocks” will allow firms to activate new functionalities without resorting to complicated API integrations. As Reza Parsia of NetDocuments states, the aim is to help legal professionals perform optimally by integrating intelligent tools into the systems they already use.
