The European Law Masters Alumni Association (ELMAA) is set to host its eighth annual Summer School on European Union Law from July 27 to 31, 2026, on Corfu Island, Greece. This year’s program, titled “The EU as a Global Actor: Legal Foundations and Challenges,” aims to provide an in-depth exploration of the European Union’s role on the international stage.
Since its inception in 2017, the Summer School has been a collaborative effort between ELMAA, the Ionian University of Corfu, and the Corfu Bar Association. The program has consistently attracted a diverse group of approximately 50 participants, including law students and early-career legal professionals from over 20 countries. The curriculum is delivered by a distinguished faculty comprising members of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), senior EU officials, and professors from various European universities.
The 2026 faculty lineup includes:
- Leila Medina, Advocate General at the CJEU
- Anna Marcoulli, Judge at the CJEU
- Inge Govaere, Director of the Law Department at the College of Europe (Bruges)
- Panos Koutrakos, Professor at the University of London
- Roberto Mastroianni, Professor at the University of Naples
- Revekka–Emmanouela Papadopoulou, Professor at the Law School of Athens
- Eleftheria Neframi, Professor at the University of Luxembourg
- Lamprini Xenou, Associate Professor at the University Paris-Est Créteil
- Antonios Bouchagiar, Member of the European Commission’s Legal Service
- Fabrizio Barzanti, Senior Legal Officer at the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) in Paris
The program’s structure includes morning lectures from 10:00 to 13:30 at the Ionian University, focusing on various aspects of EU law related to the theme. Afternoons and evenings are reserved for social activities, such as beach outings, guided tours of Corfu Town, and cultural events, fostering networking and cultural exchange among participants.
The participation fee of €600 covers six nights of accommodation at the Sunset Hotel Corfu, daily breakfast, coffee breaks, dinners, and all organized social activities. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with responses provided within one to two weeks. Prospective participants are encouraged to apply promptly, as spots are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
