“Alt Legal Expands Global Reach with Acquisition of UK-based WebTMS for Enhanced IP Management”

In a strategic move to bolster its global intellectual property (IP) management capabilities, Alt Legal, the cloud-based trademark docketing and management platform, has completed its acquisition of WebTMS, a UK-based IP portfolio management software provider. This acquisition marks Alt Legal’s sixth, expanding its reach beyond the United States and cementing a physical presence in the United Kingdom with much of WebTMS’s team. The acquisition is a full company takeover, with all of WebTMS’s personnel remaining on board, three of whom have been integral to the company since its inception.

The fusion of Alt Legal’s automation-centric approach with WebTMS’s extensive configurability and thorough global management expertise positions the combined entity to better serve trademark professionals. According to Nehal Madhani, founder and CEO of Alt Legal, the partnership’s potential transcends mere platform integration. It encompasses an extensive suite of services like integrated global trademark monitoring and paralegal support.

Founded in 2013, Alt Legal has garnered a strong client base by connecting directly with over 180 global IP offices. Meanwhile, WebTMS has spent over 25 years building a robust and customizable platform with an international clientele. Both companies share a trademark-focused ethos, differentiating themselves from many IP vendors that predominantly emphasize patents.

The deliberate integration strategy includes forming a customer advisory board to ensure a smooth and customer-centric merging of the two platforms. While Alt Legal incorporates insights from WebTMS’s next-gen platform, Cedar IP, current operations for clients remain unchanged for now.

This acquisition continues Alt Legal’s recent growth trajectory, following its acquisition of the docketing business of competitor TM Cloud in 2023 and its expansion into paralegal services through the acquisition of WeberMark in 2024. With these strategic moves, Alt Legal now enjoys a strengthened global footprint and increased personnel count, positioning the company to better serve its diverse client base across geographies and industries.
