Frankfurt Law Review Seeks Scholarly Contributions on AI and Digital Transformation for Special Edition

The Frankfurt Law Review at Goethe University Frankfurt has announced a call for papers for its upcoming Special Edition focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Transformation. This edition aims to explore the legal implications arising from the rapid integration of AI technologies and the ongoing digitalization across various sectors.

Submissions are invited from students and graduates of law programs, encompassing essays, seminar papers, and academic theses that delve into the legal aspects of digital transformation. Contributions should be concise, approximately 6,000 words, and can be written in either German or English. The deadline for submissions is May 31, 2026. Detailed submission guidelines are available on the Frankfurt Law Review’s publication page.

This initiative reflects a broader academic interest in examining the intersection of law and emerging technologies. For instance, the International Review of Law, Computers & Technology recently published a special edition titled “From Digital Remains to Sustainable AI: Law, Technology, and the Twin Transitions,” which compiles research from the 39th Annual BILETA Conference 2024. This collection addresses the legal challenges posed by technological advancements and the transition towards sustainable AI practices.

Similarly, the Network Law Review has announced a forthcoming special issue on “The Law & Technology & Economics of AI,” aiming to foster a multidisciplinary dialogue on AI governance. This issue will feature contributions from experts discussing regulatory approaches and the economic implications of AI technologies.

In the financial sector, the SAFE Policy Center at Goethe University Frankfurt established the LawLab – Fintech & AI in November 2021. Led by Professor Katja Langenbucher, this initiative focuses on the legal questions surrounding technological changes in financial services due to digital transformation and AI. The LawLab serves as a platform for scientific workshops and events that incorporate experiences from politics and regulatory practice.

The Frankfurt Law Review’s call for papers presents an opportunity for legal scholars to contribute to the ongoing discourse on AI and digital transformation, addressing the complex legal issues that arise as technology continues to evolve and integrate into various facets of society.
