BlackBoiler has launched Veris, a platform uniting its deterministic redlining capabilities with generative AI, now available as a Microsoft Word add-in. The contract-review tool aims to streamline the marking-up process by allowing legal teams to work directly within Word, minimizing the disruption of switching between platforms.
Veris emerges in response to demand from BlackBoiler’s clientele, who sought a more interactive experience. Incorporating large language models (LLMs), the platform maintains its deterministic roots by utilizing an organization’s historical data for contract markups. According to Daniel Broderick, BlackBoiler’s co-founder and CEO, this blend of approaches delivers precision while mitigating the risk of AI “hallucinations.”
In an effort to widen access, BlackBoiler unveiled two subscription tiers: the Starter tier for solo practitioners at $1,250 annually and the Pro tier for team reviews, priced at $3,000 per user per year.
A vital feature of Veris is its automated playbook setup, converting written guidelines into executable rules. This process optimizes onboarding, curating an organization’s editing playbook based on past practices without extensive human intervention. Veris offers users two review modes: a “full review” that inserts edits as tracked changes, and a “quick review” that suggests changes in the margins, ranked by their impact.
Veris aims to enhance contract review governance by grounding AI-generated edits in a company’s established practices. As LawNext notes, Veris represents a shift towards consistent and governed legal AI applications, focusing not just on language generation but also on reliable and efficient contract management.
