Centari, a leader in AI-driven transaction management, has introduced two new features, Amendment Awareness and Deal Maps, that enhance its ability to analyze multiple documents connected to complex transactions. These features provide a deeper understanding of how deal documents are interrelated and how they evolve over time, addressing a key challenge in the legal industry’s use of AI.
Both features mark a significant extension for Centari, which aims to move beyond single-document review to comprehensive analysis across multiple agreements, amendments, and ancillary documents. According to LawNext, this capability is immediately available to Centari’s client base, which includes major law firms like Ropes & Gray and Willkie Farr & Gallagher.
Kevin Walker, Centari’s founder and CEO, emphasized the importance of understanding a transaction systemically, rather than focusing solely on individual documents. While traditional legal AI tools treat documents as static texts, Centari’s patent-pending Deal Reasoning Engine is designed to interpret how documents within a transaction interrelate over time. This approach is reflected in both of the new features.
Amendment Awareness
Amendment Awareness ensures that all data related to a transaction stays current even as changes occur. Unlike conventional redlining, which shows textual changes, this feature identifies how amendments alter the underlying meaning of a deal over time. Walker notes the utility of this feature for complex document structures such as credit facilities and governance documents that often undergo multiple amendments.
Deal Maps
The Deal Maps feature offers a visual representation of the relationships between different documents within a transaction. Automatically generated, these maps illustrate how agreements incorporate, modify, or supersede each other, saving attorneys the time historically spent reconstructing these relationships manually. This approach parallels traditional structure charts and fund-flow diagrams but applies them to transactional documents.
Beyond the application layer, Walker discussed Centari’s focus on the data layer. The goal is to provide law firms with high-quality, structured data from their deal documents. Walker believes that an ontology of a firm’s knowledge can offer a strategic edge, extending down to individual deals, clauses, and data points.
Since late 2025, Centari has expanded its team with hires from major law firms and investments in applied legal research, underscoring the company’s commitment to developing tools that stem from practical legal experience.
