SurePoint Technologies, known for its practice-management and finance tools tailored for mid-sized law firms, has announced a significant leadership change. Jeff Steinberg was named as the new chief executive officer on July 23, elevating previous CEO Eric Thurston to the role of executive chairman. This management shift comes amid a strategic mandate for change following a series of acquisitions that have expanded the company’s capabilities.
In a conversation with Bob Ambrogi for LawNext, Steinberg communicated that his appointment represents a departure from the status quo. Under his leadership, the company aims to further integrate its roster of acquisitions—Coyote Analytics, ContactEase, Leopard Solutions, and ZenCase—into a cohesive operation, enhancing the services it provides to its customer base.
Steinberg brings a wealth of experience in legal technology, having founded Redwood Analytics in 2000, which specialized in helping law firms leverage data for profitability analysis. His understanding of the industry is further informed by his experience in medical records retrieval and his advisory role at Aquiline Capital Partners, SurePoint’s private equity backer.
During the LawNext interview, Steinberg highlighted his vision for SurePoint’s technology evolution, particularly in distinguishing between machine learning and generative AI in system development—a crucial distinction for fostering client trust. He also shared insights from early customer conversations regarding AI adoption and emphasized the importance of strategic decisions whether to build, buy, or partner on new solutions.
