Smokeball Unveils Global Rebranding to Enhance Efficiency for Small and Mid-Sized Law Firms

The law practice management platform Smokeball, drawing its name from the historic case Carlill v. Carbolic Smoke Ball Co., has introduced a refreshed global brand aimed at furthering its mission to empower legal professionals. This move underscores Smokeball’s commitment to enhancing the productivity of solo, small, and mid-sized law firms that frequently cater to individual clients rather than large corporate entities.

Central to this rebranding effort is the concept of “‘powering people-law,” which Smokeball defines as “less admin, more time for the people who need you most.” This focus highlights the company’s dedication to its existing customer base of law firms with under 100 staff members, who practice in diverse areas such as family law, real estate, and employment. According to co-founder and COO Jane Oxley, this is not a shift towards a new audience but rather a reinforcement of its current market focus.

The rebranding includes a new visual identity, with the introduction of a flag logo representing advocacy, and an updated color palette—continuing its signature orange with a refreshed shade named Power Orange. This imagery and updated messaging are designed to position Smokeball alongside major technology brands while maintaining its core values. Oxley articulated that the rebranding is a reflection of the company’s growth and technological advancements, particularly in artificial intelligence.

In a press release, CEO Hunter Steele emphasized that the move mirrors Smokeball’s longstanding ethos: to facilitate lawyers in reducing administrative burdens so they can focus more on substantive client work. This initiative, while symbolized through new visual elements, remains deeply aligned with the fundamental purpose of law: serving people. As stated, “Because you didn’t go to law school for admin,” succinctly captures the essence of Smokeball’s new brand narrative.
