Clio Launches AI-Powered Client Intake Tool to Boost Law Firm Responsiveness and Efficiency

In an effort to streamline client intake and enhance relationship management, Clio has announced the integration of artificial intelligence into its existing Clio Grow platform. This new feature, dubbed Grow AI, offers a set of tools designed to operate continuously, converting potential inquiries into confirmed clients, thereby addressing a significant gap in law firm responsiveness to client queries.

As reported by Clio, an analysis from its Legal Trends Report reveals that 79% of prospective clients expect a prompt reply, yet 67% of law firms fail to respond to email inquiries and 48% do not follow up on phone calls. The introduction of Grow AI is aimed at tackling these inefficiencies by providing real-time responses to inquiries that often arrive during off-hours when firms may lack the resources to respond effectively.

Grow AI is engineered to monitor communications channels such as phone lines, email inboxes, and web chats. Upon detecting a new inquiry, it facilitates an immediate interaction by addressing preliminary queries, gathering relevant contact and case information, and assessing the lead based on predetermined criteria like case type, location, and potential conflicts.

This assessment process is informed by data from the firm’s previous casework. Clio states that “every hired matter, every declined case, and every past outcome becomes a signal,” enhancing the AI’s capability to discern suitable leads when they arrive. Grow AI allows for the direct scheduling of consultations with qualified leads, alongside the capability to issue follow-up communications via SMS or email for outstanding tasks.

The integration leads seamlessly into Clio Manage, ensuring that all pertinent details—contact history, case specifics, documents, and billing information—are transferred once a lead is confirmed as a client.

Clio has structured the pricing model for Grow AI such that fees are incurred only when the AI successfully converts a lead into a client, with a charge of $25 per lead. If the AI does not facilitate the conversion, no fee is charged. Initially, existing customers of Clio Grow can trial this new feature without cost for their first three conversions. Read more here.

John Foreman, Clio’s Chief Product Officer, emphasized the democratizing potential of the technology by stating, “A two-person firm shouldn’t need a call center or a marketing department to compete with the biggest firms in the country. Grow AI gives them the same always-on response and judgment about which leads are worth pursuing, built directly into the platform they already run their practice on.”
