Newcode Secures Series A Funding, Sets Sights on U.S. Legal Tech Expansion

Oslo-based legal AI company,
Newcode, has concluded a Series A funding round, boosting its total capital raised this year to $20 million. The latest financing effort will bolster Newcode’s ambitions to expand its presence into the U.S. legal tech market.

The recent round was led by OnDean Forward, an investment firm initiated by Relativity’s founder Andrew Sieja. Although the exact amount of this round wasn’t disclosed, considering
Newcode’s earlier achievement of raising $6.5 million this year, it’s inferred that the recent influx reached a figure of $13.5 million.

Additional participants in the Series A include The LegalTech Fund, Antiportfolio Ventures, Rel Labs (Relativity’s investment division), and existing investors. This strategic backing comes with a focus on enabling law firms to maintain control over their AI capabilities, underlining Newcode’s mission to help firms establish AI-native infrastructure that integrates their unique workflows and professional insights.

Newcode’s product, resembling an AI harness, not only seeks to facilitate law firms in harnessing AI but does so while allowing them to retain operational control. This approach presents an alternative to traditional legal AI solutions that often impose operational changes on firms.

In the legal AI arena, the company’s harness provides four key functionalities: Connect, Contextualize, Create, and Control. These allow firms to integrate data, enhance document intelligence, build workflows, and enforce customized permissions, respectively. Despite the company’s rapid growth narrative and mention of 700 MCP connections, specifics of these connections remain unspecified.

Newcode’s momentum is evidenced by increased clientele and revenue growth. It now serves upwards of 60 law firms and government agencies across Europe and the U.S., with recent reports revealing notable clients like The Bar of Ireland and DLA Piper.

The foundation of Newcode’s investor and advisory boards, specifically tailored to the legal sector, enhances its appeal. As part of their U.S. expansion plans, Newcode aims to enhance customer support, product development, and strategic alliances within the AmLaw 200 and broader legal frameworks.
