The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) forecasting contest, a novel endeavor on SCOTUSblog, is drawing attention as it enters its inaugural session for the 2026-27 term. This forecasting challenge, crafted in collaboration with Good Judgment Inc., provides an interactive platform for legal professionals and enthusiasts to formally predict the outcomes of pivotal SCOTUS cases. The initiative not only engages the audience in forecasting but also pits human judgment against predictions made by artificial intelligence, or what is referenced as “Super Intelligence.”
The contest is structured to stimulate both seasoned analysts and newcomers, offering them an opportunity to test their skills and predictions against the digital prowess of AI models. Participants are invited to predict outcomes of key cases, with a chance of recognition on SCOTUSblog for the top three most accurate forecasters come July. The predictions are based on cases argued during the October session and can be continuously updated until a decision is reached. Participants may join by signing up through Good Judgment’s portal, requiring only an email, Google, or Facebook account.
Given the unpredictability and complexity of Supreme Court decisions, this contest also aims to foster deeper engagement and understanding of the Court’s workings, particularly as it continues into the current round of oral arguments. As new substantial cases are brought forth, they will be added to the prediction challenge, keeping participants continuously informed and involved.
