Gunderson and Dentons Launch In-House AI Chatbots for Enhanced Legal Expertise

Law firm Gunderson Dettmer Stough Villeneuve Franklin & Hachigian has announced the launch of ChatGD, its internally developed generative AI chat application, intended to facilitate its attorneys in their practice. The firm’s chief innovation officer, Joe Green, describes the tool as “an accelerant for subject matter expertise,” that will help attorneys perform their roles more efficiently.

This development closely follows a similar announcement by global law firm, Dentons. Only a mere two days before Gunderson’s reveal, Dentons introduced a proprietary version of ChatGPT for its offices in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the Middle East.

This trend of embracing generative AI is not unanimous across the legal industry, however. While some law firms are investing in artificial intelligence platforms like Harvey and CoCounsel, others are more reticent about its adoption. The profession appears divided over whether generative AI is the future of legal work or a security risk.
