Small Law Firms Compensation: Bridging the Income Information Gap

In the realm of law practice, attention often gravitates towards Biglaw, yet it is lesser-known that the overwhelming majority of attorneys are employed in modest-size firms comprising fewer than 20 lawyers. This leaves many of these attorneys left to wonder how their income measures up in comparison to their peers in larger firms whose market rate and average partner income are more prominently publicised.

In an effort to address this informational disparity, Above the Law has undertaken to develop a compensation report tailored specifically for solo practitioners and small-firm lawyers, providing them with a more accurate financial metric to reference. To achieve this, an inclusive and completely confidential survey has been crafted for legal professionals working in firms of 50 or fewer attorneys.

Soliciting participation from as many eligible candidates as possible is crucial to enrich the quality and coverage of the information gathered. Accordingly, legal professionals in smaller law firms are not only encouraged to take the survey but also to promote participation amongst their peers in similar positions. The more responses received, the greater the depth and reach of the data, affording more comprehensive insights for solos and small firm lawyers.

Completing the survey serves not only to equip the respondent with comparative financial knowledge but also contributes to bridging the information gap within the legal profession at large. Anonymity is strictly maintained for all survey participants.
