In recent legal news, Personalized Media Communications (PMC) voiced its argument to the U.S. Supreme Court regarding a decision that quashed a $308.5 million infringement verdict it had previously obtained against technological giant, Apple. PMC’s allegations rest on the assertion that the counter decision was an unjust deviation from established case law.
The initial verdict was linked to PMC’s inordinate deferrals while soliciting the patent and it targeted Apple’s infringement of said patent.
However, the abrupt expunction of the hefty verdict in Apple’s favor has prompted PMC to question the underlying legal principles of this move.
PMC argues that this decision represents “a radical departure from settled case law”, stirring a pivotal debate on the interpretation and application of patent laws in some of the highest commercial echelons.
