In the latest turn of what’s turning out to be a spiralling international dispute, a U.S. International Trade Commission judge represented a significant turn of the tide for Sonos. As was decided on Friday, Google, in its allegation against Sonos, could not satisfactorily substantiate its claim that the audio player company had violated trade laws by importing equipment allegedly infringing Google’s patents. Law360 reports.
This recent judgment is one development amidst a saga of ongoing disputes between the two tech giants, a story sprawling several international courts.
While we take a closer look at how events continue to unfold, the ruling in question arguably sets a precedent for future patent-related cases. It’s a victory, for sure, but much, no doubt, remains to be decided in these complex and global legal wranglings between technology behemoths such as Google and Sonos.
