A. Benjamin Spencer, the esteemed dean at William & Mary Law School, has recently accepted a position as of counsel at McGuireWoods, an Am Law 100 firm. Spencer plans to balance this new role while remaining in his post within the legal education landscape.
In his role as of counsel, Spencer will work for the firm’s business and securities litigation department. His responsibilities will include consulting with McGuireWoods lawyers and clients on pressing legal matters, as well as carpeting on learning initiatives and client development opportunities. The firm announced this appointment with no small amount of enthusiasm on their official website.
In discussing his commitment to his profession, Dean Spencer told Law.com, “Being able to provide advocacy and sound counsel for those who need it is what being a lawyer is all about, and I am a lawyer through and through”. This sentiment certainly aligns with the dual responsibilities he now shoulders in both academics and active legal practice.
