As reported by Tamar Silam, a law student at Buchmann Faculty of Law at Tel Aviv University studying legal developments in Israel for JURIST, the country is currently undergoing a horrifying shift in its environment.
Citizens woke up to a dreadful morning with alarming sirens and rocket bursts caused by a massive attack from Hamas. The terror did not stop at the indiscriminate rocket firing, as units of terrorists reportedly infiltrated Israel’s territory and launched a lethal rampage against civilians. These terrorists, with an appalling disregard for human life, invaded homes, took hostages, and caused carnage, not sparing children or the elderly.
The aftermath of this horrific onslaught has left parents desperately trying to locate their children and the injured scattered across the region. The terror seems relentless, with Hamas reported to be hidden within urban sectors continuing their violent campaign against civilians. The death toll has shockingly surpassed 600 while the toll of injuries is above 2000.
Regrettably, this tragic reality is only made worse by propaganda purposely spread by Hamas, depicting celebrations amidst the fallen. This has caused heartache and fear throughout Israel, especially when more than 4,000 missiles were fired at them from Gaza primarily targeting civilians, resulting in lost lives, including children, and destroyed families.
With fear and helplessness looming over Israel, the citizens are continuously exposed to the horrific images and videos of the atrocities broadcasted by Hamas on the internet. When they should have been celebrating a national holiday, the citizens were left mourning for the lost lives due to the terror attacks.
In these trying times, the citizens reminiscence about the desire for peace and life. They refuse to let Hamas’ missiles intimidate them into submission without fighting back to secure their safety.
