Paxton’s Criminal Complaints Against House Impeachment Managers Face Uncertain Outcomes

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed criminal complaints against House impeachment managers for releasing his home address. According to Bloomberg Law, Paxton threatened to file these complaints in the home counties of all 12 House impeachment managers. This came in response to his Austin address being made public in an exhibit dump.

Despite the seriousness of these threats, a multitude of lawyers opine that these complaints are unlikely to result in any charges. As it stands, only two complaints have been validated as officially filed. To further compound the issue, Paxton’s office has yet to respond to queries regarding why there aren’t more filed complaints. Even the GOP consulting firm that Paxton used to announce these threats has been unresponsive.

One prosecutor that did receive a complaint from Paxton indicated that the decision to file charges is not yet finalized. If these complaints were to result in formal charges, it would certainly not be an everyday occurrence in legal proceedings, potentially setting a precedent for such cases in the future.

It’s important to note that revealing a public figure’s home address in impeachment proceedings is not standard procedure, and typically it’s viewed in the legal world as an act of harm. However, numerous details surrounding these criminal complaints remain unclear and will likely evolve in the coming weeks.
