Texas AG Paxton to Face Deposition in Whistleblower Wrongful Termination Lawsuit

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has been ordered to participate in a deposition and turn over records pertinent to a wrongful termination lawsuit, as per a ruling by state district Judge Evan Stubbs. Paxton attempted to transfer the case to a conservative court, a gambit that was unsuccessful.

The lawsuit emanates from a group of Paxton’s former aides who allege they were unjustly dismissed after reporting what they believed were criminal actions by Paxton to the FBI in 2020. Paxton’s request to halt discovery in the lawsuit was also denied by the Judge Stubbs.

In a twist that further complicates matters, a proposed $3.3 million settlement collapsed when the legislature did not provide the required funding. Paxton had hoped to have the lawsuit moved to a court with a Republican judge.

This ruling allows the litigation to proceed in its current location, Travis County, with depositions continuing as planned.
