Elon Musk’s X Corp., known formerly as Twitter, has urged a Florida federal judge to dismiss a suit levied against them by X Social Media LLC. The latter company has alleged trademark infringement and unfair competition in their filed complaint. In response, X Corp. has staunchly referred to the lawsuit as “a shakedown masquerading as legal claims.”
At the crux of the disagreement is the contention that X Corp. is illicitly leveraging X Social Media’s trademark, alongside unfair competition practices. The full details of the complaint and X Corp.’s defense, however, remain to be disclosed.
This latest development follows a long-standing trend of high-profile corporations involved in protective and at times combative jurisdiction over trademark rights and the subsequent allegations of infringement.
