In a significant recent development, a federal judge in California nullified a part of the allegations made by a licensing company in their $900 million lawsuit against technology giant Intel. The presiding judge’s advance ruling, expected to impact the trial set for next year, essentially ruled out the possibility of Intel’s microchips operating as described in one of the patents claimed by VLSI. Furthermore, the judge claimed another patent to be indefinite.
The allegations made in the lawsuit concerned the functioning of Intel’s microchips in the United States and whether they infringe on the patent rights of VLSI. With this ruling, some of the key accusations made against Intel in this licensing dispute will likely be rendered moot, pending a review in the upcoming trial.
