IDF Mistakenly Kills Three Israeli Hostages Waving White Flag in Gaza Conflict

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they mistakenly killed three Israeli hostages in Gaza even though they were holding up a white flag. The hostages have been identified as Yotam Haim, Samer Talalka, and Alon Shamriz.

According to IDF, after the incident, the bodies of the hostages were transferred to Israeli territory for examination, confirming their identities. It was reported that Hamas kidnapped these individuals during an attack on October 7. These hostages had either escaped or were abandoned.

In response to the incident, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi took responsibility for the accidental killing. He stated that the IDF and he, as its commander, take full responsibility for the incident and made a commitment to take measures to prevent similar cases from happening in the future.

The tragic news was followed by outbursts of outrage from the public. The people of Tel Aviv protested against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government. They were joined by the families of those still captive in Gaza, including Raz Ben Ami, a released hostage, who warned the government that military operations in Gaza put the hostages at risk.

The war between Israel and Hamas began when Hamas launched several attacks on Israel that killed more than 1,200 people, mostly civilians. The death toll in Gaza has since reached 19,088, predominantly civilians. Accusations of war crimes have been lodged at both Israel and Hamas throughout the conflict. As of last week, the UN General Assembly voted in favor of a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.
