New Jersey Politics Website Defeats Defamation Lawsuit Linked to Facebook Comments

In a recent legal development, a New Jersey politics news website triumphed in a defamation lawsuit that involves accusatory Facebook comments. The plaintiff in this case was Jeffrey Dye, a former leader of the local NAACP branch. According to a ruling by the state appeals court on Monday, one of the reasons for Dye’s loss was his failure to check his emails.

The suit against the New Jersey Globe came after it reported on various comments made by Dye, who had been serving as president of the Passaic NAACP. These remarks, which were directed towards Latinos and the US’s financial aid to Israel, were shared on Facebook. Allegedly, Dye also made discriminatory comments towards a reporter from the Globe stating he doesn’t interact with Jewish individuals.

Subsequent to these remarks, Dye was dismissed from his role at the state Department of Labor. The lawsuit was, however, filled with numerous procedural errors because Dye had chosen to represent himself. On appealing the case to a lower court, a rehearing was rejected.
