George Mason University Law School Faces ABA Financial Compliance Issues

The Council of the American Bar Association’s Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar has determined that George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School is substantially out of compliance with Standard 202—financial resources. This determination comes at a time when the prestigious law school is already navigating choppy waters due to previous scandals.

In a recent November meeting, the Council reviewed the financial standing of GMU Law and found it to be not in alignment with Standard 202(a) regarding generated resources of the law school. This compliance issue was officially shared through a public notice on December 6th.

GMU Law has long been considered a key player among U.S. law schools and this determination by the ABA is sure to raise additional questions and scrutiny. Being found out of compliance with a fundamental financial standard not only forces immediate action from the school, but could also have significant repercussions for the student body and alumni network.
