In a move that may predict increased activity in Paris’s increasingly competitive private equity market, August Debouzy, a French firm, has brought on board a veteran M&A and private equity partner from Paul Hastings. After a 13-year stint at his former firm, during which time he ascended to partnership status in 2014, Etienne Mathey has chosen to transition to August Debouzy. Prior to his role at Paul Hastings, Mathey worked as an international counsel at Proskauer Rose, also in Paris, and as an associate at Rambaud Martel, now known as Orrick.
This recent development might indicate a swing in the tug-of-war for high-caliber legal talent in a competitive Parisian private equity market, which always keeps a watchful eye on the comings and goings of industry heavyweights.
