NCAA Advances Tighter NIL Rules, Awaiting Final Approval

Significant movement is being seen at the NCAA as they advance the tightening of rules surrounding name, image and likeness (NIL) deals. Athletes participating in NIL agreements will now have to register with the organization, part of the NCAA’s efforts to implement contractual standards. Further, the NCAA is dedicated to providing educational resources on NIL matters to athletes and institutions alike.

The proposed changes were approved by the NCAA’s Division I Council during its annual convention held this year in Phoenix. The initiative, while getting the green light at this stage, is still awaiting final approval. Upon its full institution, these revised rules are set to influence how athletes and their respective institutions navigate the highly-debated world of NIL rights.
