Intel Urges Rejection of VLSI’s Attempt to Bypass Chip Patent Trial in March

On Friday, Intel Corp. made a plea to a California federal judge, requesting the rejection of VLSI Technology’s efforts to circumvent a scheduled trial in March. The trial revolves around Intel’s assertion that VLSI’s claim of patent infringement would be invalidated by an existing license held by Intel for chip patents owned by VLSI.

Intel has accused VLSI Technology of a “blatant attempt at forum shopping,” a tactic often used by plaintiffs in patent litigation to influence the outcome. Forum shopping refers to the practice of choosing a court that the plaintiff believes will provide the most favorable judgment.

Intel’s legal position is that it cannot infrally infringe on VLSI’s chip patents due to their current license agreement. This case illustrates the complexity surrounding intellectual property rights and their enforcement in the tech sector, and how major corporations navigate these issues.
