AffiniPay, the umbrella organisation for several legal tech products, has announced its gameplan to incorporate generative artificial intelligence (AI) across all its products in order to make AI an integral part of daily legal workflows.
The first step towards this ambitious goal involves launching two new features on its MyCase law practice management platform. These AI-enabled features will then be extended to its other technologies like, CASEpeer, LawPay, and Docketwise.
AffiniPay’s CEO Dru Armstrong strongly believes that generative AI will be a fundamental part of a modern legal practice management platform, much like how the migration to cloud drastically changed the landscape of software development and usage.
The two features being released in MyCase are:
- The ability to summarize documents. Users can select any document and generate a summary, making it easier for them to review the document.
- Text editing capabilities. Users can modify their text’s tone, style or simply shorten it.
These features will soon be rolled out in CASEpeer and will also be added to LawPay, AffiniPay announced.
Armstrong explained that document review and text editing were chosen to be the first AI functionalities rolled out because these are considered arduous tasks by customers. AffiniPay aims to concentrate on areas where generative AI could bring about marked time savings, whether within core workflow or in the way users interface with the technology.
In the broader sense, AffiniPay envisions to be more than just a platform with AI capabilities. It aims to generate data-based insights delivered through a conversational interface, thus allowing firms to perform tasks like searching across case and firm data, receiving custom recommendations for optimal intake, productivity, and cash flow, among other functionalities.
When it comes to deploying AI, AffiniPay is meticulously taking into account balancing opportunities of improvements against the potential security concerns. Armstrong emphasizes that although legal professionals are eager to adopt AI, they still prioritize responsible AI usage.
MyCase is utilizing OpenAI’s GPT language model for its APIs and does not use customer data to train its LLM models. To ensure top-notch accuracy, the company will be evaluating customer feedback from its beta testing.
Armstrong views the current AI rollouts as “quick wins”. Her long-term vision entails reimagining how legal professionals engage with AffiniPay’s platforms. By using generative AI, she believes the overall user experience could be enhanced, subsequently driving efficiency and financial gains.
