Female Patent Applicants Benefit Significantly from USPTO’s Pro Bono Program

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s (USPTO) pro bono program has drawn high levels of engagement among female patent applicants, according to the agency’s director. The program, in effect since 2015, has reportedly provided over $39.3 million in donated legal services.

The commendable figures denote the program’s effectiveness in promoting legal assistance to unrepresented patent applicants, a notable subset of which are female. This trend sheds light on the increasing presence and contributions of women in the patent field, traditionally a male-dominated domain.

Interest in the USPTO’s pro bono program emphasizes the need for accessible legal services within the patent field, particularly amongst female patent applicants. This need is evidently catered for by initiatives such as these, that provide critical resources to those who might struggle otherwise in securing patent protection for their innovations.
