The Assistant Coroner, Ian Potter, has stated that although Ford was suffering from an acute mental health crisis and had consumed a significant amount of alcohol when she died, he did not ascertain her death as suicide. His reasoning is based on the lack of clear evidence to suggest that she intended to take her own life.
Prior to her tragic end, Ford reportedly made attempts to seek help. She made a call to a mental health professional, discussing her depression and alcohol consumption but was unable to secure an appointment in time. Moreover, she also left behind a note accentuating a degree of helplessness.
In response to Ford’s death, her manager, Matt Morgan, mentioned that he observed no signs suggesting issues of stress or work-life balance. He further stated that she was knowledgeable about the firm’s mental health helpline. Laura Cameron, the managing partner at Pinsent Masons LLP, echoed Morgan’s sentiments, expressing how deeply Vanessa Ford would be missed at the firm.
