Cooley Bolsters California Litigation Practice with Addition of Baker McKenzie Partner

The esteemed law firm Cooley is looking to enhance its litigation strength in California, as it brings on board the co-chair of Baker McKenzie’s North America class action practice. Teresa Michaud, who is also celebrated as the leader of Baker McKenzie’s global technology, media, and telecom industry group, will join Cooley as a partner in Los Angeles. Bloomberg Law reported.

However, this is not Cooley’s first high-profile acquisition for its litigation group. Earlier this month, the firm enlisted former federal prosecutor and Capitol Hill veteran, Susanne Grooms, to kick-start its congressional investigations practice in Washington.

Highlighting the ongoing success in attracting top-tier litigators, Mike Attanasio, chair of Cooley’s global litigation department expressed confidence in the firm’s strategic approach. Michaud’s entry into Cooley’s legal roster signals an increased investment in the growth of their litigation practice, particularly in the region of downtown LA.

Michaud is not merely a founding member of Baker McKenzie’s Los Angeles office, but she is also well-recognized for her significant work on dispute resolution including class actions and privacy litigation. She has built a stellar career over nearly 18 years, advising on multijurisdictional contract disputes and consumer class actions under California and federal law. Notably, Michaud represented Sony Interactive Entertainment in a lawsuit related to PlayStation 5 and was part of the team that counseled Google Payment Corp. and Google LLC on various issues.

Speaking about her passion for aiding innovator and disruptor clients tackle new liability theories, Michaud expressed excitement to join Cooley and contribute to groundbreaking cases. Given these developments, Cooley seems to be positioning itself strongly as a destination for litigation practice.
