The US Soccer Federation indeed disbursed more than $9.2 million to two prominent law firms within its latest fiscal year, as revealed by a new financial statement. The lion’s share of these funds, nearly $7.3 million, landed in the coffers of King & Spalding, with the remaining amount, just shy of $2 million, paid to Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.
The payments were made over a one-year period, spanning from April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023. Notably, the financial statement connected to this disclosure, the nonprofit’s annual Form 990 filing, did not delve into specifics regarding the nature of these legal expenses.
However, it is known that Morgan Lewis has a lengthy history of advising the US Soccer Federation on matters related to labor and employment. As for the other law firm, the soccer-governing body retained the services of King & Spalding and partner Sally Yates.
