DuPont Water Settlement Counsel Seek Sanctions Amid Lawyer Misconduct Claims

Legal professionals involved in DuPont’s water contamination settlement have initiated sanctions against lawyers representing a Southern California wholesaler, citing their recurring “abusive, unreasonable and vexatious behavior”. This behavior is reportedly causing delays in the distribution of the $1.19 billion agreement.

The settlement pertains to compensation for numerous retail water suppliers across the nation due to contamination with “toxic chemicals”, identify as perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, in public water supplies.

On March 15, a sanctions motion was submitted, accusing the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s legal counsel of a “bad-faith course of conduct”. The accused misconduct is extensive, involving the spreading of erroneous information to class members, libeling class counsel, and filing invalid objections.
