Two pending legal concerns—23andMe Inc.’s data breach and the presence of toxic metals in baby food—are to be managed by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, following the relocation of dozens of lawsuits connected with the cases in question. The decision was made by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, which coordinated the lawsuits into separate multidistrict litigation dockets during its recent session.
In one of its orders, the panel assigned 39 cases against South San Francisco-based 23andMe to U.S. District Judge Edward Chen, who is already managing most of them. As highlighted by R. Brent Wisner, a partner at Wisner Baum, who characterized these collective lawsuits as “one of the most important litigations in recent history”.
