Anglo American Rejects BHP’s $39 Billion Undervalued Takeover Offer

Anglo American Plc has dismissed a $39 billion takeover proposition from BHP Group, declaring it significantly undervalues the firm. In the dismissed all-share deal, Anglo was intended to initially spin off major stakes in South African platinum and iron ore enterprises to its shareholders, followed by an acquisition by BHP. The per-share worth of the non-committal proposal was approximately £25.08, BHP stated.

“The BHP proposal is opportunistic and fails to value Anglo American’s prospects,” said Stuart Chambers, Chairperson of Anglo, in a public statement. This outcome was not surprising to those in the industry as analysts, along with some Anglo investors, had viewed BHP’s proposition as considerably less than the company’s actual value.
