Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus, known for its stylish designs and competitive pricing, is now making headlines in the legal world. The company is currently disputing a Texas federal jury verdict, which found the phone giant liable for a staggering sum of $10 million, on counts of infringing five patents belonging to Pantech, another industry player.
OnePlus has called this verdict a ‘grossly inflated damages award’, expressing its disagreement with the decision. Simultaneously, Pantech, seemingly unsatisfied with the $10 million judgement, is pushing the court to increase the monetary award even further.
It is yet to be seen how this high-stake patent infringement dispute pans out in court. Furthermore, it will be interesting to observe how this litigation impacts these two industry giants in an already fiercely competitive market.
