In an unfortunate turn of events, the Orthodox Easter Sunday celebrations in Kharkiv, northeast Ukraine, were marred by Russian attacks, resulting in one fatality and almost two dozen injuries, according to regional officials. Several districts and around 15 settlements in the Kharkiv region – including Shevchenkivskyi and Kyivskyi – were reportedly the targets of shelling and attacks. The extensive damage inflicted by the shelling included residential buildings, apartment blocks, garages, cafes, and medical facilities. Three private homes were completely destroyed. As a result, one elderly woman lost her life beneath the debris, and the tally of 24 injured citizens is expected to rise.
These attacks were allegedly carried out using guided bombs, a weapon frequently employed by Russian military forces in the shelling of Ukraine’s northwestern region during the ongoing full-scale invasion.
Amid these large-scale attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, a loss of over a billion dollars has been reported by Ukraine’s Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko. Impacting regions such as Kharkiv with power cuts due to daily shelling, these attacks continue with the use of various methods like drones, ballistic missiles, and artillery.
