Yesterday Amazon appealed to an Illinois federal judge in attempts to dismiss a verdict which ruled the company responsible for infringing three cloud data storage technology patents. These patents are owned by Kove IO, a software company based in Chicago, due to which the e-commerce giant would owe $525 million. In response, Amazon contended that Kove IO was unable to prove any such infringement.
Should the judge rule in favor of Kove IO, this could potentially have a massive impact on Amazon and its practices, raising questions about corporate behavior with regards to infringement issues.
