On May 10, J-M Manufacturing Co. filed a complaint in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against asbestos plaintiff’s firm, Simmons Hanly Conroy LLP. The complaint alleges that Simmons Hanly, known for its mesothelioma and asbestos case specializations, has been resorting to unlawful and fraudulent litigation tactics.
The company outlined a consistent pattern of deceptive practices by the law firm in hundreds of lawsuits. Particularly noted were “implausible” narratives developed by Simmons Hanly about how their clients, generally mesothelioma and asbestos victims, were exposed to asbestos in J-M’s asbestos-cement pipe. This narrative, the company charges, is backed by fabricated details designed to “maximize recovery” for their clients.
According to J-M Manufacturing Co., the dubious methods identified as “The Simmons Hanly Fraud Playbook,” are still in active use. The company’s concern extends beyond the current litigation, anticipating that these actions will continue to cause harm.
